"My graduate research at the University of Houston focuses on the development of microfluidic technologies for plasmapheresis and plateletpheresis. I am designing and optimizing label-free microfluidic devices that efficiently separate plasma and platelet-rich plasma directly from whole blood while minimizing blood cell damage and preserving platelet function. My research investigates hydrodynamic and other passive microfluidic separation mechanisms, channel geometries, and flow conditions to improve separation efficiency, throughput, and biocompatibility. The long-term goal is to develop compact, low-cost, and point-of-care plasmapheresis and plateletpheresis systems that can provide rapid blood component collection for clinical diagnostics, therapeutic apheresis, transfusion medicine, and personalized healthcare."
