- What are the admission requirements for the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program?
Biomedical Engineering follows the admission requirements established by the Cullen College of Engineering.
- Will my courses from Houston Community College, Lone Star College, or another institution transfer?
The University of Houston uses the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) to evaluate transfer credit from Texas public colleges and universities. Students can review course equivalencies using the UH Transfer Credit Estimator and the TCCNS transfer guides.
- How is Advanced Placement (AP) credit evaluated?
Visit the Transferring Credit webpage to view accepted AP exams, minimum scores, and corresponding UH course credit.
- Do I need to take the Math Placement Exam?
If you do not have credit for MATH 2312 (Precalculus) or MATH 2413 (Calculus I) through transfer credit, AP credit, or another approved source, you must complete the Math Placement Exam. For more information, see the Math Placement FAQs.
- I am a current UH student and want to change my major to Biomedical Engineering. What should I do?
Current UH students interested in changing their major to Biomedical Engineering should submit a Major Change Request Form and meet the College of Engineering change-of-major requirements. If you have questions about the process, please contact the Undergraduate Advisor at bmeugrad [at] central.uh.edu (bmeugrad[at]central[dot]uh[dot]edu).
- Does Biomedical Engineering offer an honors program?
Yes. Biomedical Engineering students can participate in the Cullen Honors Program (CHP), a joint program between the Cullen College of Engineering and the Honors College. CHP provides a challenging and supportive community for high-achieving engineering students through honors courses, faculty mentorship, hands-on project-based learning, and opportunities for professional development. Students also gain access to networking events, industry connections, and experiences that support future careers, graduate school, and professional programs.
- What resources are available to help me succeed in my courses?
Biomedical Engineering students have access to a variety of academic, professional, and personal support resources throughout their time at UH. These include tutoring, academic advising, career development, wellness services, and other student support programs. Visit our Student Resources page to explore available resources and support services.
